Mission Statement

  • Establish the Seattle Streetcar Alliance as a credible, community-based alliance with public agencies to explore the feasibility of expansion of Seattle’s streetcar network from the downtown core to city center neighborhoods
  • Develop grassroots support for the Seattle Streetcar network through outreach to Seattle neighborhoods
  • Help ensure the Seattle Streetcar network will be an urban connector that is integrated into a larger regional transportation system
  • Explore impact of streetcars on neighborhood economic development and livable communities

We believe such a system will:

  • expand economic development opportunities in our urban centers
  • support the City of Seattle’s Transit Plan to connect neighborhoods with more frequent transit service
  • provide greater access to the region’s expanding multi-modal transit centers and services
  • enhance neighborhood livability by providing healthy lifestyle choices in transportation

The Streetcar Alliance will provide an ongoing forum for neighborhood leaders to work jointly with agency staff on current transportation planning initiatives.
And the Alliance will be preparing a report to present to Mayor Nickels, City Council and community leaders this summer outlining initial ideas for potential routes, and financial partnerships for operating and capital costs. We are proposing to work with University of Washington students in the preparation of our work products.
